Illustrated portrait of Alan Salam, game developer in Erbil, Iraq

Chapter 03 · Behind the pixels

Artist’s eye.
Developer’s brain.

I move comfortably between code and art, which lets me prototype ideas quickly and carry a cohesive vision from mechanics to final pixels.

I work from Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where game development is still a young industry. Building games here means wearing every hat — programming, art, design, and shipping — and that’s shaped how I work. My games have reached thousands of players, from an educational mobile game for children in rural Iraq to a GDWC finalist action game.

My toolkit spans Unity and C#, Godot, Unreal Engine, Blender, ZBrush, Substance 3D, shaders, XR, UI/UX, and backend integrations.
